How does Ever Been access my location history?

Ever Been reads the GPS metadata embedded in your photos. When you take a photo with location services enabled, your iPhone saves the coordinates where the photo was taken. The app extracts only this location data—it never accesses or views your actual photos.

Does Ever Been see my actual photos?

No. The app only reads the metadata (location and timestamp) from your photos. The photo content itself is never accessed, processed, or stored by Ever Been.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. All your location data stays on your device. We don't have any servers or cloud storage. The only time data leaves your device is when you explicitly share it with another person via nearby discovery or iMessage.

How do I share my location history with someone?

You have two options:

• iMessage: Send a comparison invite through Messages—works with anyone, anywhere
• Nearby: Share directly with someone next to you via Bluetooth/WiFi

Can I exclude certain places from being shared?

Yes! In the "My Places" section, you can mark any location as excluded. Excluded places won't be included when you share your location history or compare with others. This is useful for sensitive locations like your home or workplace.

What if I don't have many photos with locations?

If your photos don't have location data, you may need to enable Location Services for the Camera app in your iPhone Settings. You can also import photos from Facebook photo exports, which often contain location data from check-ins and tagged photos.

Does Ever Been work without internet?

Mostly! Scanning your photos and comparing location histories works offline. However, converting GPS coordinates into place names (like "Central Park, New York") requires an internet connection—this uses Apple Maps, the same service that powers the Maps app on your iPhone. Sharing via Nearby also works without internet.

How do I delete my data?

Go to Settings (tap the gear icon) → Delete All Data. This will remove all stored location history and comparisons from your device. You can also delete the app, which removes all data since nothing is stored elsewhere.
